Ethereal Estate is a sandbox exploration game focused on the hauntology of a specific place. Its starting point is the ruins of Sant Romà de Sau, a Catalan village that was submerged in the 1960s by the dictatorship for the construction of a water reservoir, and resurfaced in 2023 due to severe drought in the area. The player embodies a ghost who can freely roam the digital scans of these ruins and their “opposite”: a modern architectural structure that does not belong to any fixed timeline. Across both spaces, the player can interact with floating cans (remnants of drought tourism) that trigger fragments of text and audio, revealing fictional fragments of the site's past, present, and future.
